About ACSM116 and CCMC

The Atelier de Création Sonore et Musicale 116 (ACSM116) is a Japanese voluntary organization founded by Japanese composers and academics. Since 2001, ACSM116 has organized The Contemporary Computer Music Concert (CCMC), an annual electroacoustic music festival held in Tokyo and/or in Kyoto. In 2004, ACSM116 established the ACSM116 Prize. In 2007, the FUTURA Prize and the MOTUS Prize were added. Award-winning works are subsequently performed at the Festival FUTURA (MUSIQUE ACOUSMATIQUE ART RADIOPHONIQUE VIDEO) organized every year in Crest (FRANCE) by the French musical company MOTUS.

The CCMC concerts are characterized by the use of an Acousmonium.

The Acousmonium is a sound diffusion system whose concept was developed in 1974 by the French composer François Bayle, who was then leading the famous “Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM)”(today’s INA-GRM). This system is often referred to as an “orchestra of loudspeakers” because it combines different types of loudspeakers to project electroacoustic sound into space.

RULES AND CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY
Eligibility
There are no restrictions regarding age, nationality, or place of residence.
Group entry is also accepted.
Previous winners of the ACSM116 Prize are not eligible to apply.
Each individual may participate in only one submitted work. Simultaneous participation in both an individual submission and a group submission is not permitted.

In case of participation by minors, parental consent to participate is required.

All works selected by our committee (“selected works”) will be performed at our CCMC concert.

Composers of selected works are encouraged to perform their own works in the concert, although participation is not mandatory. One distinctive particularity of CCMC is the use of an Acousmonium (an orchestra of loudspeakers). An Acousmonium is an electroacoustic music performance tool designed to fit the concert venue. This is a rare opportunity to experience an Acousmonium system. All you need is a stereo work. You project sound into the space and move it through your own manipulations. A brief introduction to Acousmonium performance will be provided, so prior experience is not required.

If your work is selected and you choose to perform your work by yourself, you must follow the rehearsal and performance schedule provided by the organizer.
Please note that all expenses for transportation, lodging, etc. are to be borne by the participant.
If a selected work’s composer is unable to attend the concert, the work will be performed by an Acousmonium performer designated by ACSM116.
